What DesktopHut is
DesktopHut is a library of free live wallpapers — video wallpapers, image wallpapers, and interactive/web wallpapers — organized by category, platform, and resolution, plus the home for DesktopHut Studio, the desktop app that plays and creates them.

Every wallpaper page has a direct download button — no account required to download.
Submit
Anyone can submit a wallpaper for review; it goes live once an admin approves it.

02 · Finding wallpapers
Browsing & discovering
There's more than one way to land on a wallpaper you'll actually want.
- Categories. The homepage and nav list every category — Nature, Anime, Abstract, Gaming, and more. Each category page is itself filterable by resolution and platform.
- Search & tags. Use the search bar for a keyword, or click any tag on a wallpaper's page to see everything else sharing it.
- Editor's Choice. A hand-picked shelf of standout wallpapers, refreshed regularly — a good starting point if you're just browsing.
- Platform filter. Filter to only the platforms you actually use (Windows, Android, iOS/macOS) so you're not scrolling past wallpapers you can't use.
Tip. Every card shows a small resolution/type badge in its corner — 4K, 1080p, or WEB for interactive wallpapers — so you can tell what you're getting before you click in.
03 · What you'll find
Wallpaper types
DesktopHut hosts a few different kinds of wallpaper, and it's worth knowing which is which before you download.

04 · Downloading
Downloading a wallpaper
- Open the wallpaper's page. Click into any card from a listing or search result.
- Check the type badge. It tells you whether you're getting a video, image, or interactive package before you download anything.
- Click Download. The file downloads directly — no account or sign-in needed.
- Set it. Video and interactive wallpapers need DesktopHut Studio (or another wallpaper player) to actually run as your desktop background; images can be set through your OS's normal wallpaper picker.
05 · Contributing
Submitting a wallpaper
Made or found something worth sharing? Anyone can submit a wallpaper — no account required.
- Open the submission form. Linked from the site's footer/nav as "Submit a Wallpaper."
- Fill in the details. A title, a short description, and the category it belongs in — accurate tags help people actually find it later.
- Upload the file. Video, image, or interactive package.
- Wait for review. Submissions are checked by an admin before they go live — this usually doesn't take long, but isn't instant.
Note. Submissions are rate-limited to keep the queue from being spammed — if yours doesn't seem to go through, wait a bit before trying again.

Favorites & notifications
Found something you like but not ready to download yet? Save it. Want to know when something new drops? Turn on notifications.
Favorites
Tap the heart/favorite icon on any wallpaper card to save it to your own list for later.
Notifications
The bell icon lets you opt in to updates when new wallpapers or features are added.

What the app does
DesktopHut Studio is two things in one app: the Wallpaper Library plays your wallpapers as your actual Windows desktop background, and the Motion Photo Editor lets you turn any photo into a new one.
02 · Setup
Getting started
- Install the app. Pick Microsoft Store, portable, or MSI from the download page.
- Open the Library. It's empty at first — drag in a downloaded wallpaper file, or download one directly from DesktopHut.com.
- Apply it. Select a wallpaper and click Apply — it becomes your live desktop background immediately.
03 · Playing wallpapers
The Wallpaper Library
The Library plays four kinds of wallpaper in one grid: video, HTML packages, .dh scenes, and online URLs (e.g. a YouTube link).
Adjusting a wallpaper live

Multi-monitor & span mode
Run a different wallpaper per monitor, or span one scene as a single continuous canvas across all of them — the demo on the app page shows what spanning looks like.
Performance
Low Resource Mode, adjustable quality tiers, hardware decoding, an FPS limit, and automatic pausing (fullscreen games, screen lock, and more) keep a wallpaper from getting in the way of everything else you're doing. A live CPU/RAM readout sits right on each wallpaper's card.
Custom scene controls
Some .dh scenes ship their own on-screen controls (sliders, toggles, color pickers) defined by the scene itself — they show up right in the Library's detail panel.
04 · Making wallpapers
The Motion Photo Editor
Import a photo, paint motion onto part of it, and export a new living wallpaper.
Layers
A scene is built from layers — the base image, an optional bone rig (for character movement), GIF/text/solid-color layers, and particle assets.
65 motion presets, 8 categories
Motion & displacement, water, light & color, weather & particle-as-mask, stylized & particle-driven, glass & lens, blur & focus, and post-process. One notable exception: Cloth Sway isn't a shader preset at all — it's real Verlet-integration physics, used for hair, capes, and curtains.
Masks & parameters
Paint a soft-edged mask to control exactly where an effect applies, then fine-tune its parameters — and optionally keyframe them so the effect itself changes over time.

- .dh
- DesktopHut Studio's native scene package — layers, effects, and optional custom controls in one file.
- Motion preset
- A pre-built effect (one of 65) you paint onto part of a photo in the Motion Photo Editor.
- Mask
- A painted region that controls exactly where an effect applies on a layer.
- Particle asset
- A pre-built particle system (snow, fire, fireflies, and ~30 more) you can drop onto a scene.
- Span mode
- Playing one scene as a single continuous canvas across every connected monitor.

FAQ & troubleshooting
Installation
Windows is warning me about an unrecognized app (SmartScreen).
This is normal for smaller independent apps that haven't yet built up SmartScreen reputation. Click "More info" then "Run anyway" if you trust the source you downloaded from (the DesktopHut download page or Microsoft Store).
My antivirus flagged or quarantined part of the app.
The video-playback component can occasionally trigger a false positive on some antivirus engines. Restore it from quarantine and add an exception if your antivirus lets you review what was flagged.
I get a ".NET Framework" error when installing.
Install the latest .NET Desktop Runtime from Microsoft, then re-run the DesktopHut Studio installer.
Does it work on Windows 7 or 8?
No — DesktopHut Studio requires Windows 10 or 11.
Display
My screen goes black on a laptop with two GPUs.
This is usually a dual-GPU (integrated + dedicated) driver conflict. In your GPU control panel, set DesktopHut Studio to always use the integrated GPU, then restart the app.
Visual effects look wrong, or Windows is in High Contrast mode.
High Contrast mode overrides how Windows renders transparency and layered windows, which can distort a live wallpaper. Turn it off in Windows' Accessibility settings if you don't need it.
My wallpaper conflicts with Rainmeter (or a similar desktop tool).
Both apps compete for desktop-level rendering — try setting Rainmeter's skins to "on top" instead of "on desktop," or run DesktopHut Studio without Rainmeter to confirm the conflict before adjusting settings further.
A spanned video wallpaper shows black bars.
This usually means the monitors' resolutions or aspect ratios don't match cleanly for spanning — try per-monitor wallpapers instead, or a scene built specifically for your layout.
Performance
The app is using too much CPU or RAM.
Turn on Low Resource Mode, lower the quality tier, cap the FPS limit, and enable hardware decoding if it isn't already on. The live CPU/RAM readout on each wallpaper's card helps you spot which one is heaviest.
My wallpaper doesn't recover after sleep or an Explorer restart.
Re-apply the wallpaper from the Library — DesktopHut Studio re-attaches automatically in most cases, but a restart of Windows Explorer can occasionally require a manual re-apply.
General
My monitor got disconnected and reconnected — what happens to my wallpaper?
DesktopHut Studio remembers your per-monitor assignments and re-applies them automatically once the monitor is back.
Can I hide my desktop icons while a wallpaper plays?
Yes — there's a toggle for this in the app's display settings.
Is macOS support the same app?
No — macOS is covered by Wallspace, built and maintained by our collaboration partner, not DesktopHut Studio itself. See the app page for both download links.
